Moving Checklist
The following checklist will help make moving day less stressful.  An important aspect of a successful move is pre-planning. 

Before moving day:
    
q Schedule rental truck and/or moving company at least six weeks in advance.
    
q Begin gathering packing supplies and start packing.
    
q If you are renting, notify your landlord/management company at least four weeks in advance.
    
q Contact utility companies to schedule shut-off dates for where you currently live.
    
q Contact utility companies to schedule connect dates for your new home.
    
q Notify the post office of your change of address and mail change of address cards.
    
q If you have pets or plants, arrange for their move as most companies cannot move them.
    
q Arrange to register your children in new schools.
    
q Look for new doctors and dentists.
    
q Update or open new bank accounts. 

Specific tasks you won’t want to overlook:
    
q If you are traveling some distance, have your car serviced two weeks in advance.
    
q Make hotel reservations if you need to.
    
q On moving day, carry hard-to-replace items with you (jewelry, family photos, etc.).
    
q Back up your computer files before you disconnect and pack away your computer.
    
q Put together your family’s and your own health records to transfer. 

Last minute tasks for the day of the move:
    
q Pack a survival kit with essentials to tide you and your family over for 24 hours;
                 
q Personal needs - eyeglasses, medications, extra clothes, etc.
                 
q Bathroom needs – towels, soap, toilet paper, etc.
                 
q Cleaning needs – sponges, cleaners, broom, dustpan, etc.
                 
q Kitchen needs – snacks, drinks, disposable utensils, cups, plates, etc.
                 
q Basic tools – hammer, screwdrivers, knife, tape, etc.
    
q Have payment on hand for movers.
    
q Make sure to have the keys and directions to your new home.
